In 1945, when the Tata Group started the Tata Locomotive and Engineering Company. It was a public limited company that manufactured railway engines and boilers.

After the start of the company's work, the Second World War ended. This increased the demand for heavy machinery more than locomotives and boilers. Telco then started making heavy engineering products like road rollers, tractors, diesel engines etc.

India got independence in the year 1947, riots started spreading between Hindus and Muslims all over the country. This also affected the production of Telco.

The Pathans working in the company overnight went to Pakistan from Jamshedpur. Telco's work was stalled for several days. Tata used to make train engines.

Indian Railways bought about 10,000 engines from Tata Group. But Tata soon realized that their only customer was the Government of India.

Indian Railways bought about 10,000 engines from Tata Group. But Tata soon realized that their only customer was the Government of India.

At the same time, Indian Railways can decide the price of the engine according to its own. In such a situation, they started thinking about the future of Telco.

Telco becomes Tata Motors;  The Tata Group also started manufacturing trucks with locomotives in the telco. These trucks were then produced in association with Daimler-Benz.

Later this Telco became the Tata Motors Company. Its heavy engineering department was made a separate company, which we know today as Tata Hitachi.
